About The Role

The Investing in Women Future Program aims to reduce indigenous women’s vulnerability to poverty and abuse by providing strategies and workshops to promote women’s economic independence through direct service and referrals pertaining to employment/education/training, developing goals, small business support, and offering one-on-one assistance, group workshops, and culturally relevant programming. This position will be directly accountable to the Program Manager or a designated person for the execution of some of the activities described below.

What You Will Bring Along:

  • Post-secondary diploma/degree in community wellness or related field, with a minimum of three (3) years’ work experience in advocacy or community engagement, or the equivalent
  • Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and Communities
  • Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and family dynamics
  • Extensive knowledge of Employment readiness, enhancement, and employability
  • Computer Savvy and working knowledge of Office equipment.
  • Strong communication and facilitation skills with the ability to speak to a large group.
  • Ability to network and maintain relationships with service providers and other entities.
  • Strong organizational and time management
  • Current Police Record Checks and Vulnerable Sector Screening are required.
  • First Aid and CPR certifications are an asset.

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Process in-house individual needs assessment to determine the client’s employment, education, training, and goals, develop an action plan, determine appropriate referrals, and follow up on their ongoing processes.
  • Promote, execute, and support resume writing, interview preparation, cover letters, the application process, access to the Dress for Success Program, and navigation of employment service systems for employment/self-employment.
  • Manage and promote the “dress for success” room/ program.
  • Develop a roster of Employers, skill-building programming, and supportive resources.
  • Ensure IWF Information and Bulletin Board are updated frequently, and information is reflected on social media and the website.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, promote, and advertise daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual program activities and workshops as well as ensure room readiness and tidiness before and/or after each program activity/workshop.
  • Implement and connect culturally based activities by positively promoting Indigenous healing and wellness, with a focus on VAW matters.
  • Take responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of cultural teachings and organizational practices in a professional manner.
