The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) is a community-based organization dedicated to providing resources and support to urban Indigenous women and their families. NWRCT delivers culturally relevant programs and services that empower and build the collective capacity and self-sufficiency of Indigenous women. Through the partnership Ministry of Community and Social Services (MCSS) Indigenous Initiatives Fund-Human Trafficking, the Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto will create innovative approaches to support survivors of sexual violence, harassment and human trafficking, while building a body of evidence about what works to improve service delivery outcomes.
As part of the NWRCT team, the Trauma Support Case Manager will provide timely and effective support and assist to build capacity of survivors of sexual violence, harassment and human trafficking under the guidance and support of the Trauma Support Coordinator. The Trauma Support Case Manager will provide support and assistance to the program and its clients.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Degree or Certificate in social work, counselling, trauma therapy OR related degree/certificate with a minimum of (4) years relevant work experience
- Demonstrated experience in crisis support, intervention and ability to mediate conflict
- Strong case management/crisis response/intervention skills/needs/risk assessment skills
- Strong experience in client advocacy with demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous women, families, and/or communities.
- Proven ability in case management and supportive counselling skills
- Proven experience in and knowledge of victims’ issues surrounding violence against women, sexual violence, human trafficking, transitional support, crisis management and stabilization
- Excellent written, verbal communication, interpersonal skills, documentation
- Strong client assessment skills, with the ability to work from a client-centred, trauma-informed approach with an Indigenous lens
- Maintain relationships with other service agencies and the ability to network.
- Focus and ability to work with in-house traditional healers for intervention, crisis and program creation
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and communities who have faced trauma, faced fleeing and diverse circumstances
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures and traditional healing continuums. Respect and understanding of NWRCT cultural protocol and statement.
- Experience working with Traditional Healers, Elders and Knowledge Keepers in a professional helping setting
- Strong organizational/time management skills
- Current Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening are required
- First Aid and CPR certifications are an asset
- Program facilitation skills are an asset
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively take part in, implementing, and promoting the Trauma Support program while attending critical committee and advisory tables on GBV AND HT
- Provide case management services, which include assessment, short term intensive case management, supportive counselling, long-term planning, and follow-up services when needed to victims of sexual violence & human trafficking and traumatic crisis situations
- Assess client needs and develop and implement a plan of care with short- and long-term objectives, with ongoing monitoring until clients can be referred to the necessary service providers
- Provide crisis intervention support and short-term counselling services for clients
- Collaborate closely and make referrals to the programs Trauma Counsellors & Traditional Healers and Trauma Support Coordinator to support clients with wrap-around care while also offering programs and services that meet the program mandate
- Refer and link clients to a range of community resources to provide blanket, wrap-around supports
- Keep accurate client files, case notes, and project evaluation documentation
- Collaborate with peer mentors and other centre staff to provide wrap-around services to caseload
- Co Facilitate and support circles and groups for survivors of sexual violence and human trafficking
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES
- Complete reports monthly, quarterly, and annually, e.g. client files, programming statistics, and monthly work plan, and submit on or before the due date
- Maintain accurate, current client listing, case notes, program participation statistics, and client files
- Effectively organize and update the calendar of events
- Assist with program budget expenditures, coordinate and prepare necessary paperwork with adequacy and reasonability as required
- Assist with other program workshop preparation and monitoring, as required
STANDARDS OF PERFORMANCE
- Adhere to policies, procedures and best practices as set by the NWRCT and applicable funder mandated policies and procedures
- Ability to create and maintain a confidential, welcoming, friendly and safe environment
The Trauma Support Case Manager will be directly accountable to the Program Manager or designate for the proper completion of the functions outlined in the job description.
